A Speedy Recovery

As a physiotherapist I am often surprised at how long people put up their aches and pains without having them assessed.Ignoring your injuries can result in unnecessary persistence of pain and limitation of things you enjoy. You should get your injury assessed as soon as possible because:

1. Untreated injuries may become chronic: Ignoring an injured joint can result in continuing pain, stiffness and restriction of function. The longer it is ignored, the harder it may be to reverse symptoms.

2. Untreated injuries may become recurrent. While some injuries appear to heal on their own, if the underlying weakness has not been corrected, the risk of future and, potentially more serious, injuries is increased.

3. Early treatment will lead to quicker resolution. A properly managed injury will lead to a speedier return to your sport, work and everyday activities.

4. Your injury may be more serious than you think; What you think is a simple ankle sprain may actually be a small fracture.  An injury that is not properly managed can have serious consequences.

5. Injuries limit your performance, whether it is at work, sport or simply playing with the kids. You do not have to put up less than your peak performance.

6. To learn strategies to help yourself overcome your injury such as; learning exercises to increase your strength and mobility and receiving advice regarding activity modification as well as the best ways to prevent recurrence.

In the interests of a speedier recovery have your injuries assessed by your physiotherapist as soon as possible
